BP Texas Refinery Had Huge Toxic Release Just Before Gulf Blowout

http://www.propublica.org/article/bp-texas-refinery-had-huge-toxic-release-just-before-gulf-blowout

So this poison spewed forty days and forty nights?

I'm seeing blame here placed squarely on the heads of members of the national media, essentially saying, if the media had given a damn, this poison would have halted. I fail to see how that is any kind of tolerable excuse. This is the sort of thing you're expected to know because you're paying attention.

Fear of violence looms as Mexicans prepare to head to elections

It's supposedly a referendum on the war against the cartels. What if the voters vote against it? What then?

Bill Keller's self-defense on "torture"

The politics isn't the point. It's that a term one begins using as a result of political and social pressure is politically correct, and the term that was replaced by the new term, is not. To state otherwise, as this NY Times executive has, is to turn reality on its head.

By the way, I didn't stop reading news. I was still nursing a cold. Hard to post on all the important things I read when I have a lack of energy. I'll try to keep it up and at least put the important things here.

Gun rights extended by Supreme Court

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/06/28/AR2010062802134_pf.html

Looks like a pretty big deal. Some fundamental issues were left in no man's land for decades with plenty of people magically believing this or that version that suited their views. Now there's a proper precedent, even if it is 5-4. Almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

Supreme Court Strikes Down Key Part of Sarbanes-Oxley

So.... what, now presidents can interfere with the board if they want to? That was the whole issue?

West Virginia Sen. Robert Byrd Dead at 92

Well, we all have to go sometimes. It's actually better for the Democrats' legislative hopes; a long incapacitation would've prevented them from getting a replacement. I hope that doesn't sound too cold but, I've seen a lot of politics in my young life. No man is thought of as indispensable for long. Life moves on - fast. Especially in this pressure cooker environment.

Thousands protest summit in Canada; vandals smash windows, torch police cars

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2010/06/26/police-say-protests-canadian-summits-tamer-previous-summits/

So, does this prove PM Harper right for spending all that money on security? Or are they feeling the need to act up because he spent all that money? I'm wondering who will argue #2. Chicken or egg. Egg or chicken...

Prince Charles's role in Chelsea barrack planning row 'unwelcome'

Somehow I don't think he's very sorry about what happened.

Impenetrable? Sounds like Sun Tzu.

Probably depends on your definition of 'recover'...

Welcome To My Haven

I know there's other ways to share what you read but, I wanted a blog about it. Someone might be interested in all the crazy things I'm reading around the world.

Fair warning: I read fast. I am good at skimming, too. And I don't comment on politics... but I'll link to what I'm reading and considering without comment.
